HISTORY OF WILLIAMS-BOYCE AGENCY, LLP
The Williams-Boyce Agency of Amarillo, Texas was
established by George Williams in 1904. Williams was an easterner who came to
the Texas Panhandle at beginning of the 20th Century to be near the dry air of
the Texas Panhandle and participate in the initial growth of the frontier.
After World War I, John Kirkpatrick Boyce, Senior came returned to his hometown
of Amarillo, Texas as a war hero (Boyce was awarded a silver star for his
gallant service in action). John Boyce was employed by Mr. Williams upon his
return and became a partner in 1925. Upon Williams’s death in the 1930’s, Boyce
became the managing partner of the business.
The City of Amarillo, Texas was founded in 1886. Since that time, Amarillo has
witnessed substantial growth in its population and in the number of successful
businesses operating in the city. Williams-Boyce Agency has thrived on this
expansion. Throughout its history, Williams-Boyce has served the insurance needs
of many large and growing businesses and the people involved in those
businesses. Williams-Boyce attributes its longevity to a concerted effort to
diversify its customer base among business types and the various companies
serving those customers.
In 1951, John Kirkpatrick Boyce, Jr., a graduate of the United States Military
Academy at West Point and the Wharton School of Finance returned to Amarillo to
work with his father at the Williams-Boyce. His younger brother, Jim Boyce, a
graduate of The University of Texas at Austin and a former Navy pilot, became a
part of the agency in 1962. In more recent years, John’s sons Peter and William,
both graduates of The University of Texas at Austin, have returned to Amarillo
and become partners in the agency. As Williams-Boyce Agency has entered the 21st
Century and celebrates its centennial in 2004, the Williams-Boyce Agency
partnership consists of John, Peter, and William Boyce.
